Smart Battery Sense

Smart Battery Sense is a wireless battery voltage and temperature sensor for Victron's MPPT solar chargers.

Through voltage and temperature detection, the batteries will be charged better, which will improve charging efficiency and extend battery life.

By measuring the voltage at the battery terminals, errors due to voltage loss due to cable resistance are avoided, ensuring correct charging voltage.

For lead-acid batteries, battery temperature data is used to adjust charge voltages: cold batteries require a higher charge voltage, while hot batteries require a lower charge voltage. For lithium batteries, temperature data is used to disable charging when they are too cold: charging lithium batteries near or below freezing causes permanent cell damage.

The connection between Smart Battery Sense and one or more solar chargers is wireless: It uses the VE.Smart network - a wireless technology based on Bluetooth Smart.

The information transmitted can be used simultaneously by one, two or more solar chargers connected to the same bank of 12V, 24V and 48V batteries. The Smart Network is configured using the VictronConnect app.
